Six straight home wins against Newfane. There must be something in the water. How else do you explain the way Wilson shows up to play when the Panthers visit?
On the same day that Newfane debuts in the small school poll for its attention-grabbing Williamsville Holiday Tournament championship, Wilson delivered the Panthers a message in no uncertain terms: we're not impressed.
Wilson dominated Newfane right from the opening tip and turned a heated rivalry into a 32-minute party for the home faithful. The Lakemen never trailed and outscored Newfane in all four quarters, en route to a 57-36 win.
Newfane never seemed to settle in to the rivalry atomosphere and looked uncharacteristically tentative. Wilson was anything but tentative, and took the role of aggressor on both ends of the court.
After a promising 3-0 start, the Panthers fall to 4-2, with a 1-2 mark in the N-O. Wilson is in sole posssesion of first place in the N-O at 3-0, and improves to 5-2 overall.
With its most recent win, Wilson has now taken six of the last seven, and nine of the last 11 from the Panthers. It was the first time since 2006 that this rivalry has seen a margin of victory exceed 20 points.
Tyler Martin led Wilson with a game-high 15 points, while Dustin DiLaura and Pat Diez each finished with 11 points. Junior Matt Baker came off the bench and scored all eight of his points in the third quarter and Pat Walch also netted eight points in the win.
Sean Seefeldt scored 10 points in the loss and Bryan Geise added nine points.

Great game for the Lakemen and Coach Sippel. Newfane is better than they showed last night and I highly doubt they will play as poorly as they did again this year. Something seemed amiss with a couple of the Newfane players last night. Personally, I didn't see the passion that they normally exude on the floor, especially in an atmosphere like last night. The Lakemen played well on both ends of the court and played their best defensive game of the season.
It was also nice that we didn't hear the "PUSH IT" from the Blue Zone as in past games. A beautiful quiet evening it was!

Hoopster, like the Lakemen said about Newfane, something seemed amiss with Canisius. They sleepwalked through the first half, couldn,t seem to get going and missing shots they usually make. Had a good third building 12 pt lead, then horrendous 4th. Credit Mary's for some but Canisius had a bad night.
Marys - great fourth qt., couple nice steals converted to points. Outscored them 21 - 12.
Canisius missed 4 free throws at the very end and Mary's hit a 3 after the first misses cutting it to 3. Marys had last possession but didn't score.
Game didn't feel as exciting to me as it seems by looking at final score but that's my opinion, never had that feeling that Canisius would lose but closer than expected.

Atmosphere at St. Mary's didn't match a big MMA game. Very genteel crowd. Canisius people quiet, no students, maybe in shock!
Say if the Timon team was like the St.Mary's team this year and this game was at Timon , the 4th & especially toward the end, it would have been RAUCOUS.
