CSAT visited our hallowed vintage 1920’s gym for a non-league showdown. They prevailed 53-44 in a thrilling game going down to the final minute.
Midway through the 4th quarter, Lafayette senior Julio Muriel sank a 3-pointer that made the score 39-38 CSAT, bringing the roof down for an enthusiastic capacity crowd in the tight gym. The remaining minutes were a duel of fouls and free throws in which CSAT’s point guard Dylanta Carson continued to create and draw fouls with dribble penetration and quick dishes to Jahleel Banks or Will Fletcher sliding in from the blocks. The three of them combined for 36 points (Carson 12, Banks 8, Fletcher 16), while Bryon Locke added 9.
Lafayette guards Justin Galvin and Julio Muriel each had 12 points for the Violets. Junior forward Miyaga Miyaga added 8 and Eugenio Vira played point for the first time and anchored the Violets with 6 points and 5 assists. Lafayette next faces Lew-Point in the first round of the James Walker Tournament this coming Thursday.
