The 2015 All-Centercourt Team & CC MVP will be published on Thursday, April 16th
** Link to Brackets Central **
You think it's easy to come up a top 60? How about about separating it into a top 25 first? Give it shot. Five teams, with five players on each team, and another 35 players for honorable mention.
In about three weeks, the 5th Annual All-Centercourt team will be announced, honoring the top 60 seasons turned in by WNY high school players this year. The selections are broken down into a first, second, third, fourth, & fifth team, with five players on each, along with 35 honorable mention selections. There is also an award for the CC MVP (the WNY Player of the Year), Coach of the Year, and Sixth Man of the Year.
The top 60 may sound like a lot, but when you start putting names down on paper, the list fills quickly and inevitably some very good players get left off the list. The main criteria I focus on is the 2014-2015 season, not what you did in the past, and not where you're going in the future...it's all about honoring the top 60 from this season.
Use the comments section below to tell us what your 5 teams would look like and maybe even why. If you're really ambitious, try coming up with the entire team including the HM selections.
Please keep all commentary appropriate when discussing high school athletes, and remember, it is lame to say someone does not belong on a team, without offering up who should be on one. It might be even more lame to give only one or two teams. Show us you've paid attention this season and provide all five teams.

I am going to start out with Player of The Year.
I can see the favorite will be Zack Panebianco.
Zack is an extraordinary talent. Who certainly belongs in consideration for POY.
I am going to pick LaTerrance Reed of (Canisius) for my Player Of The Year.
Posted by: Tmont | Monday, March 16, 2015 at 04:22 PM
JWH12, how do you figure Cieski deserves 3rd team? How about the frosh from Will South? He was the much better player this year when the two went head to head.
POY. Panebianco
COY: Bataglia from Park.
Posted by: The shadow | Monday, March 16, 2015 at 05:04 PM
Nick Parucki needs consideration POY in ECIC II, WSE doesn't get a ton of publicity but nicks a great overall player.

@Furious J.P. fan I couldn't of said it better myself. He played a key role in the run by south this year. Especially the candy that his mom brought for the herd really was a key contribution.

Wait, are South fans trying to get Matt Foster and Graham Dolan in as one player? Is that allowed? If so, I think Matt Dolan is a great choice and I'd like to nominate Myles Varner for consideration.

Player of the Year:
Zack Panebianco - The stats are definitely there, another ECIC I division title, another Class AA sectional crown, almost single handily (again) beat undefeated Aquinas in regionals. He consistently came up big in the big games. Runner up: Stafford Trueheart - Canisius.
Coach of the Year:
Anastasia - Olean - I don't think he should have won it last year. I thought it should have gone to Ben Drake at Jamestown. This year, he loses all 5 starters from a team that made it all the way to Glens Falls, gets moved up a class to A-2, shares a divisional title and wins the A-2 sectional championship. Runner up - Gabe Michael - Williamsville South.

Takal Molson put up crazy numbers... So did Dante Campbell from Tech, and Jaylin Rose from tech is an awesome point guard, their coaching and supporting cast was atrocious I must say. And also the freshman Ray Blackwell from Maryvale should at LEAST make honorable mention. Kid has game

Greg Dolan from will south (freshman) should be at least 3rd team on all of these lists.. Anyone who watched south realized he was south' best player...

None of the guys John Doe mentioned will even make all-league except Molson. But I am interested in hearing some of the "crazy numbers" this Dante Campbell put up at Tech, mainly because I never heard of him. Then again I wasn't sure Tech still had a team either but I guess someone has to be last in the yale cup.

POY....Panebianco
COY....Olean's!!! How do you lose a starting line up and come back with a good season and nearly make it out of class A. Honorable mention...Battaglia for making the Park pieces fit, Dorsey who always gets the max out of his McKinley squad and Rath who lost the whole starting lineup at St. Mary's and made it to class B championship game.
Posted by: JoeTee | Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 04:01 PM
CM, yes Molson will make it. But if you seen the games I seen you would know, those 2 Tech kids and that freshman can play. Campbell scores with the best of them, Rose plays his heart out and is a true point, and that freshman will be one of the best in buffalo in the next few years.

Hoops - You're incorrect. Canisius has won a Catholic State Championship before. One in 2001 where they lost to Traditional in the Class C Federation final. Maybe you meant to say, "First State Championship in Class A in school history." I believe they won another in the 90s with Darren Fenn and once again, lost to Traditional in the Federation tournament as a Class C school.

Hoops -
You said "Reed outplayed Panebianco in their head to head match up".
Panebianco scored a game-high 26 points in that game. It was Jamestown's first game of the season, Canisius had already won the Keenan Tournament. I definitely didn't think Panebianco was outplayed. Jamestown was, 55-46.

State Champs 2003..Was that facetious comment really necessary?
Posted by: R Gerspach | Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 08:00 PM
No, it wasn't necessary but I wrote it anyway. This is a blog where individuals can openly discuss their opinions with each other as long as it's civil. If my comment is inappropriate then the operator of the blog has the right to remove it.
Those two are good basketball players and are only Juniors and destined for I hope better seasons next year, but they have shown terrible sportsmanship again and again.

I'm a depew native and boy oh boy. That Ray Blackwell kid can go! He's 5'3 or 5'4 FRESHMAN but doesn't play like it. He was moved up and started vs depew first game , and did pretty good. 2nd game had a team high and almost pulled a upset vs Cheektowaga Central. This kid can go and would show up against any other freshman guard on these lists! He at Least deserves Honorable Mention don't do disrespect his game by not even mentioning him. The kid could GO, And has an high IQ for the game! This kid we be something!!
Posted by: Brian Kawalzki | Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 10:15 PM
I've been a spectator of the kid also. The kid does some things you wouldn't expect. He also led his 10th seed team on a 8 game winning streak and also to the B1 Chamiponship. Which nobody expected once again. The unfortunately loss to Albion , which he had 14pts . This kid can Play!

Negative comments have been SOME of the reasons that led to SOME of the unsportsmanlike actions on the court unfortunately and SO ME of them would have affected ANY high school athlete on the court

6th man—this is a tough one, I would throw out Tanner Schmit (Nichols) or Juwan Toliver from McKinley as both spent some time coming off the bench during the season and both are very good players. Another possibility is Myles Hall of Will South, I am sure others are deserving as well.

I love how some of the players that people are trying to make a case for only made honorable mention in their own league. People it's a top 60 overall!! If you not at least in the top 10 of your own league, you got NO CHANCE of making the top 60 overall. Throwing around lines like "the kids a player" isn't fooling nobody. B/C if he only honorable mention in his own league then there was at least 10 dudes who was more of a player than you.

All I know is that Ray blackwell could not compete with the other freshmen in the list such as dolan. He is a great player but he wouldn't even be on varsity if he went to another school. I find it unfair that freshmen who play at other schools as well as sophomores who play on jv for bigger schools don't get any publicity.

No love for I Prep? Only school to advance to Glens Falls and Xavier Maye, Terrance James and Davon Gant are definitely top 60 players!

Without a doubt, Truehart and Panebianco are your Co-Players of the Year. However, most of the commenters are forgetting the performance Stephen Carlson had this year. Easily he is deserving of a first team or second team nod this year. He and Carlson, and at many times when Panebianco wasn't producing to the standard many expected while he was sick, Steve came through and performed to a much higher level than in years past. Just something else to consider :-).

Any one of these lists that doesn't mention Takal Molson should be invalidated. Big scorer and play maker on a solid St. Mary's team.
And there are players on here who I have never heard of them or their team, if they didn't make any headlines all season then how have they earned a spot?

I have been following WNY hoops for the last few years and I have been impressed with all the coverage that Centercourt has provided. The ranking of teams and players will always be open to subjective ness. I feel that the 1 st team should be made up of kids who did the most with what they were given. One example of this year's players who exemplified this would be Jamestown's Zack Panebianco. Zack ended up averaging more points than last year, even though he was constantly double teamed and had to work for all his output. Also, having lost his big man and still getting his team to the Regional Finals and not once caring about earning the MVP accolades make him a front runner for Player of the Year. HIs true character was shown on both close losses to Aquinas and Greece Athena, where right at the end of the game, he didn't display poor sportsmanship, but rather gave full respect to his opposing players. I also witnessed local Rochester fans approach him after both these close battles and tell him he was a great example of a fine young man. I really enjoyed watching him play these last 4 years.

Schmidt (nichols) for 6 man of year? Something wasn't right watching that happen. Interested as to why no start for only d1 in grade thus far. If he doesnt go on teams 1-3 i can see 6Man but it doesnt make sense.. talent exceeds all other forwards overall. toliver should be 6-man bc he isnt legit first thru fifth talent
Posted by: P.Welps | Monday, April 06, 2015 at 02:41 PM
Tolliver started for McKinley all season.
The Sixth man of the Year award is for a player who came off the bench for his team all season and thrived in that position, providing his team with a lift seemingly everytime he entered the game.
Posted by: centercourt | Monday, April 06, 2015 at 05:17 PM
Fair enough, schmidt was starter all season except for last game? i believe. Also a 1,000 pt scorer in 3 years @ nichols and one at clarence that didnt count... And not to mention 3 good years on good teams (buff st. Once, mma twice) and division 1 offers. tolliver also a young starter who I never saw sit games @ tip. Thanks for clarification.

laterrance reed needs some more recognition, leader of state fed cup champs and state title. iced too many 3 balls and free throws to ensure victories especially in play off run and big games. got canisius to the place it couldnt go with weir, and other star teams in the past. poy without a doubt
Posted by: WNYBballfan | Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:28 AM
Disagree with WNYBballfan.
Reed's own teammate Trueheart is a more important player to their season long success.
Also think Panebianco from Jamestown is a better player.
