* Game of the Week - Jamestown @ Lancaster on Monday, February 13th
Between what's at stake pending the outcome of the game, along with the way the first meeting between the two went down last Tuesday night in Jamestown, the Red Raiders visit to Lancaster on Monday night is the place to be.
Over the past six seasons, Jamestown has enjoyed quite the run in league play. The Red Raiders have been champs in all six campaigns, taking the title outright in four of those seasons, while being co-champs the other two years.
For Lancaster, the league title in ECIC I has been elusive for quite some time. You'd have to go all the way back to 1995 to find the last time Lancaster won the title. If they can accomplish that this season, it would be the first time the Legends have ever won it, because back in 1995, they were still the Redskins.
Both teams entered the first meeting between the two undefeated against the competition from ECIC I. After four quarters of intense play, nothing had been decided and an extra four minutes went up on the clock. In the end, it was the hosts in Jamestown who took a one-point decision in overtime for a leg up in the league race.
Entering Monday's game, Jamestown will have a mark of 12-5 overall and 10-0 in league, while Lancaster comes in at 11-7 & 9-1. I have voted the Legends as a top ten team this season and currently have the Red Raiders ranked #10.
A win for Lancaster on Monday would pull them even with Jamestown in the league standings with one game left to play. The Legends last game is against Frontier, who they've already defeated 78-49. If Jamestown wins, they will be the outright champions of ECIC I and lock up the #1 seed in the Class AA sectionals. However a loss would make things very interesting because its last game is at Williamsville North on Wednesday and a win is far less of a sure thing. The Red Raiders won the first meeting at home 59-50. If Jamestown were to drop its last two contests, Lancaster would earn sole possession of first place and the top seed in Class AA.
It's a great way to get the last week of the regular for Section VI season started - a Class AA battle with seedings and a league championship at stake. Game of the Week time in Lancaster!
