******** According to the rankings above........
- Niagara Falls is still not one of the 25 best teams in NYS Class AA. Well, I certainly disagree! Meanwhile, Fairport has climbed up to the #14 spot, after debuting at #17 last week. Eventually, when Falls piles up a bunch of wins, they will be added. However, that simply makes these rankings way late to the party. The other way they will get in, and this one is my favorite, when the number of teams magically jumps to 30 instead of 25. Nothing like watering down the process. I mean, why not make it a top 50 so we can include those teams that hustle and try hard...everyone deserves a shoutout, right? Anyway, before this rant gets completely out of hand, JUST RANK FALLS ALREADY!!! It'll only make these rankings look informed once the season plays out. Trust me.
- The state is taking notice of West Seneca West, just like WNY is. The Indians moved up four spots in NYS Class A from #24 to #20.
- Williamsville South's home loss to St. Francis caused the Billies to drop from the state rankings in Class A for the first time since the 2015 season.
- The place to be in WNY on Tuesday night is 1180 Delaware Avenue. That's where Canisius, the highest ranked CHSAA team in the state and #2 overall in Class A, will host the defending NYSPHAA Class A state champions from Irondequoit, who will come into the game as the highest ranked public school in NYS Class A (#9 overall).
- We have reached the 'put some thought into this or you might as well have a hamster spin his wheel to determine these rankings' portion! Health Sciences was #3 in NYS Class B last week. But, they lost to Canisius in a game they briefly led in the fourth quarter. So the powers that be drop them to #7? Seriously, try hamsters running on a wheel...how much more ludicrous could things turn out if you did? I'm done, can't even keep going on this one because my blood pressure is rising. More nonsense to come in Class D...
- St. Mary's is a top 25 team in NYS Class B because they played a game. Unranked last week, apparently because they hadn't played yet, but now #17. They deserve to be ranked for sure, but they did last week as well. Something tells me if good old Mount Vernon was 0-0 and coming off sectional title with the vast majority of its talent returning, they'd have been ranked. After all, Neil Kerr does wear that Mount Vernon shirt.
- Middle College is not worthy of a state ranking in NYS Class B. Hahahahahaha!!! Let me guess, they have too many losses? Not allowed to lose at Park? UPrep & Bishop Kearney were bad losses? Niagara Catholic, who lost to Franklinville and who's best win looks to be Clarence, moved up to #19, but Middle College's wins over McKinley, South Park, Cardinal O'Hara, and Burgard didn't sway the panel? Give me a big fat break! Stop worshiping records, because they don't mean a damn thing unless you put them into context. Ughhh, there goes my blood pressure again! Just a reminder for the panel, you had Middle College way low two years ago when they won their second Class C state title by 40 points because you didn't like the record.
- Speaking of Middle College, they host NYS Class C #1 Northstar Christian on Thursday night if anyone is interested.
- Tapestry and Chautauqua Lake flipped spots in NYS Class C from last week. I can almost here Neil saying "we'll just flip 'em". By the way, they are the Thunderhawks and Thunderbirds respectively. Does anyone that doesn't attend one of those schools know which is which?
- OK, we will end with one last round of 'put some thought into this or you might as well have a hamster spin his wheel to determine these rankings'. In NYS Class D, Franklinville dropped from #2 to #4 because they lost on the road, by one point, to Burgard. Now, Clyde Savannah is ranked ahead of them. So because Franklinville lost that game, Clyde Savannah is better? Didn't Maple Grove teach us anything about Class D rankings after the football regional? Where are those hamsters?
