(Nate Brawdy protects the rim for Gowanda)
Gowanda 55, Silver Creek 44
In a key contest in CCAA I East between two of the top contenders in the league, Gowanda mounted a decisive run to close the game out and earn a road win at Silver Creek. Trailing 41-40 after a 3-pointer from Jarmani Benton, the Panthers finished the game off with a 15-3 blitz over the last four minutes of the game. Nate Brawdy scored nine points during that stretch, 14 in the fourth quarter, and 28 points in the game, along with 12 rebounds. The victory ends an 11-game win streak for Silver Creek that was also the first league loss for the Black Knights. Gowanda snapped a two-game skid with the win and hopes to get some momentum back over the second half of the season after winning seven straight earlier in the year.

Coaches Quotes
Rob Catilino - Gowanda
On the defensive game planWe used a diamond & one against Jarmani and we sent a guy back with him. He gets a lot of his points when they just send him free, he gets a lot of layups - he didn't get any tonight.
On why the zone was successful
Our zone worked well because they weren't shooting well. Zones always work great when the other team is not making shots.
On the team's goal
Our goal is to get to Buff State in Class B2. We want a shot at Health Sciences and Middle College.
Rob Genco - Silver Creek
On his team's performance
If they're giving you outside shots, you have to make them pay for it. We couldn't make them pay for it so they were able to just keep packing it in.
Random Smatterings
- Gowanda dared Silver Creek to shoot threes. And there were plenty of wide open opportunities created by the Black Knights' zone offense. They moved the ball well, but literally couldn't seem to throw it in the ocean at times. I'm sure that was frustrating for a team that usually strikes from downtown often.
- If you've never seen Nate Brawdy play, I would compare his build & style of play to Kevin Durant. He's long & slim and moves fast with the ball. He's able to pull up from anywhere or get to the basket, and uses his length well on the glass.
- While I'm making comparisons, Ture Hassler has no flash to his game, but man, is he effective and sound. Who does that sound like? That's right, Ture is the Big Fundamental, Tim Duncan.
- Gowanda has some muscle on this team. Ture Hassler, Ryan John, and Matias Rikka are all thick, strong kids that don't leave a lot of room to maneuver around in the paint.
- Nate Brawdy scored 25 of his 28 pints in the second and fourth quarters. Gowanda as a team scored 18 points in the first and third quarters combined.
- Despite Silver Creek's poor shooting performance, the effort and execution were there. They didn't force too much, particularly with Jarmani Benton and Brady Woleben drawing so much extra attention. Shots just were not falling.
- Great atmosphere in Silver Creek for this game. Stands were full in all four quarters and the fans made some noise. That makes such a difference for the entertainment value.
- I took some time to look at the names on the Silver Creek Hall of Fame while I was there last night. I didn't see Zed Williams up there. Can't imagine too many better athletes, or people for that matter, have graced the halls of schools in WNY. Zed was special. I'll pay for the plaque.
