******** According to the rankings above........
- Same story again in Class AA this week, we got nothing. Neither does Section V. In fact, of the 25 teams ranked in NYS Class AA, only 10 teams play in the NYSPHAA. After seeing the talent from the PSAL, CHSAA, and AIS that arrives at the Federation Tournament each year, they might be on to something there.
- Canisius stays at the top of NYS Class A for another week.
- Timon climbed ALL THE WAY UP to #23 in NYS Class A for beating Park, who was ranked #4. That's quite the jump - two whole spots. Park is still way ahead of them in the state rankings at #11, although they were punished seven spots for the loss. Other teams ahead of Timon include Irondequoit (#9), Pittsford Sutherland (#10), Greece Athena (#12), West Seneca West (#13), and Leadership Academy (#14). Ready for the lengthy list of wins over state-ranked teams all of those teams have? I count two. Pittsford Sutherland beat Greece Athena AND Leadership beat East, our East ranked in Class D. That's it. A reminder that Timon beat Park, ranked #4 in Class A at the time, along with beating Rush-Henrietta who was ranked in Class AA at the time and had just defeated Irondequoit the night prior. They don't like you Timon. They think your wins are either lucky or easily explained away.
- Williamsville South also remains unranked. They were ranked until losing at Chaminade (#5 in NYS Class A) in Long Island.
- Health Sciences is now just one spot away from being the top-ranked team in NYS Class B following its win at Tapestry last week.
- St. Mary's fell five spots for losing at home to unranked Cardinal O'Hara. I think they got off easy for that one.
- Middle College also fell five spots in NYS Class B for getting rolled by East last week.
- Niagara Catholic moved up one place to #24 in NYS Class B. They also expanded Class B and only Class B to now include 30 teams instead of 25. That is a move to me that's lamer than a lame duck in heat. Maybe we should let three teams play for the NFC Championship because the Saints should have made that tackle and had a good season.
- Tapestry actually went down one spot to #8 in NYS Class C for its loss to Health Sciences, now #2 in a higher class. Why? You could have sooner made the argument for moving them up after playing a competitive game they led at halftime. Sigh.
- Chautauqua Lake moved up three spots to #14 in NYS Class C.
- Silver Creek finally cracked the top 20 in NYS Class C, debuting at #19 after winning its 10th straight game.
- East did not move up in NYS Class D. Even though they beat Burgard by 42 points, who beat the team one spot ahead of them (Franklinville). East also did not move up, even one spot, in Class D for beating Middle College by 23 points.
