(Master Radford and Timon had the win of the week over Park)
Large Schools
1. Canisius (MMA) - The combination of exams and cancellations have the Crusaders playing with the frequency of an NBA-type schedule over the second half of the season. But for this week, they wait for a trip to Park on Saturday that will follow an 11-day layoff.
2. Timon (MMA) - They beat Olean by 15, won a tournament in Rochester over three of its most highly-regarded teams, and then took down Park last week. I wasn't positive I'd be voting the Tigers #2, but after analyzing the win, they led at half and dominated the fourth quarter. They were the better team that night for three of four quarters. The win wasn't a fluke and I ultimately felt the win deserved to be rewarded.
3. Park (MMA) - The Pioneers resume includes an 18-point win at Falls, a double-figure win over Middle College, and an overtime loss to Class AA state-ranked Iona Prep. On Wednesday, they'll look to snap a three-game skip against St. Francis before hosting the
'Game of the Week' on Saturday.
4. West Seneca West (A1) - Now 12-0 after dropping the hammer on Jamestown and Grand Island this week. They visit Springville for a nonleague game on Tuesday, before a rematch at ECIC I foe Clarence on Thursday.
5. St. Francis (MMA) - Will look to wrap up the Bishop Grimes MLK Tournament today with a win over the host, and then gear up for a big one against Park on Wednesday. The Red Raiders week finishes with a trip to St. Joe's on Friday night.
6. Niagara Falls (AA) - Haven't played since hanging a 104-36 win on Kenmore East coming off the break. A calm weather week ahead should allow for games against CSAT and Grand Island, before a big one on Saturday with league rival Lockport.
7. Williamsville South (A1) - Winners in seven of their last eight games, with the loss coming at Chaminade (#2 in NYS Class A behind Canisius). Much like West Seneca West, the Billies are quietly taking care of business with big wins. There's a couple teams in ECIC II looking to change that this week - Sweet Home & Williamsville East.
8. Lockport (AA) - Seven straight wins, since an opening-night loss to Williamsville East. Alright Lions, you have everyone's attention heading into your home game on Saturday against Falls. Big game!
9. North Tonawanda (A1) - The defending Class A1 champs have won four straight games and are now led by a career 1,000 point scorer in Trevor Book.
10. Williamsville North (AA) - Picked up a win over Lancaster last week before Friday's game at Jamestown was delayed. This week they host Kenmore West, a team they always seem to draw in the Class AA sectionals. However, this year the Blue Devils are in Class A1, so the Spartans brought them in for a nonleague tilt.
Small Schools
1. Health Sciences (B2) - The Falcons took down charter rival Tapestry last week, but had their game against East delayed. BASCS & Oracle get a shot at The Health this week.
2. Olean (B1) - The Huskies dominated Maple Grove last week, prior to their game with Chautauqua Lake being rescheduled. Fredonia, Falconer, and Maryvale are all scheduled this week.
3. East (D) - Last week, I voted East #7, behind Middle College and just ahead of Burgard. Then the Panthers dismantled Burgard by 42 points and followed that up with a 23-point win over Middle College. Wow! Too bad that game with Health Sciences was delayed.
4. Franklinville (D) - Isaac Kopp is still somewhere banging 3-pointers after their big rivalry win over Ellicottville to start the week. All season, I've had the Panthers ahead of East. But Franklinville lost to Burgard, who East just hammered. Maybe Franklinville & East will get to play sometime this season.
5. St. Mary's (MMA) - Some really good wins during the Lancers' undefeated start to the season, but that came to a screeching halt when O'Hara came in and dropped them. They will look to get back on track in games at St. Joe's & Nichols this week.
6. Middle College (B2) - The Kats face I-Prep and Burgard this week, looking to get right after a surprising rout at the hands of East.
7. Cardinal O'Hara (MMA) - This team showed what they're are capable of once again last week, taking St. Mary's down on their home floor. The win ended a three-game losing streak, and with games at Nichols and against Niagara Catholic this week, the Hawks need both to find that consistency.
8. Niagara Catholic (MMA) - Two road games coming up for the Patriots, who improved to 8-2 with a win over Nichols. One of those is at O'Hara, who just won at St. Mary's.
9. Tapestry (C) - The Thunderhawks are now 9-3 on the year and the highest regarded team in Class C from Section VI, coming off a 102-point outing in a win over BASCS.
10. Ellicottville (D) - The Eagles are now 9-1 after rebounding from their first loss of the season with a 34-point win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
