(1) Randolph 74, (4) Chautauqua Lake 59
The defending champions of Class C2 at Randolph faced the Class C1 defending champions from Chautauqua Lake, who ended the Cardinals season last year, before a packed house at JCC. This year, it was Randolph who ended the Thunderbirds campaign to advance to a second consecutive Section VI Final. In a game that featured Chautauqua Lake's 2,000 point scorer Devin Pope against Randolph sophomore Tyler Hind, who recently eclipsed 1,000 points and is on pace join Pope in the 2K Club, it was the underclassman and his even younger teammate who stole the show.
Hind erupted for a game-high 33 points, including five 3-pointers, while 8th grader Gabe McCoy added 17 points to lead the Cardinals to victory. A one-point game heading into the second quarter, Randolph outscored the Thunderbirds 22-5 in the second frame to take a 20-point lead into halftime. Chautauqua Lake would never get back within striking distance the rest of the way, as Randolph dominated the boards and found other offensive options after Chautauqua Lake made stopping Hind its main focus. For McCoy, his performance was a culmination of steady improvement throughout the season that came together for one of his finest outings of the season in a crucial playoff test. The Cardinals face Tapestry, ranked #7 in NYS Class C, for the Section VI crown and the right to advance to the Far West Regionals.
