* Game of the Week - There's three games in four nights this week that should have the diehards drooling.
Park @ Canisius on Tuesday, February 6th
It's the rematch of #1 versus #2 in WNY. Round One at The Park School was all Pioneers until a very late Crusader surge made things interesting in the closing minutes. This game is big for the obvious reasons, but also from a mental standpoint for the Crusaders. Although they are the storied program that has dominated the area for a decade, it's Park who has dropped the hammer on Canisius in three straight meetings. Last year, the Pioneers crushed Canisius twice, but never got the opportunity to do it in a championship game. Coming into this year, the prevailing thought was that the defending Manhattan Cup champs were a year more experienced and would continue collecting titles. That is until they rolled into Park on a Saturday afternoon in January and were humbled. Now heading into Tuesday, the same cast of Crusaders needs to prove to themselves that they can beat this Park team - something that hasn't happened since 2016 and has never happened without Stafford Trueheart in the lineup.
Health Sciences vs. Park at Daemen College on Thursday, February 8th
This is the battle of #1 versus #1, in a matchup of the area's top large & small schools. The Pioneers will be just coming off a huge game on Delaware Ave, while The Health should be still stinging from a tough loss in the Centercourt Classic at the hands of Williamsville South. Much like that game from Saturday night, I'd be willing to guarantee an exciting game at Daemen. If there's one thing I've learned about the Falcons over the last three seasons under Ty Parker, they aren't afraid of anyone and they will come at you in waves for 32 minutes. I think Health Sciences came into the season regarded as a top three team in all of WNY. But with losses to Canisius & South already, a loss to Park would change that way of thinking for anyone. Between Ticket, Noah Hutchins, & Dan Scott, there's three players who will be playing Division I ball within the next three years. And both teams are completely loaded around their standouts with offers.
Canisius @ Timon on Friday, February 9th
The first meeting between these two was, by all accounts of the game I've heard from anyone in attendance, a total snooze fest! So why would this be any different? Location, location, location. A Friday night in South Buffalo with Canisius in town to take on a Tigers' team that has a win over Park this year and the area's top post defender in Master Radford will be off the chain! From what I understand, in the 13-point win Canisius had over Timon in the first meeting between the two teams, the game was sorely lacking for energy and atmosphere. That absolutely will not be the case on Friday and I expect to see both schools well represented with student sections and a full auditorium of fans. If you enjoy all those Super Bowl side bets, here's a fun one for you to make a prediction on for Friday night - Which number is higher by game's end: Master Radford's blocks or Nick MacDonald's 3-pointers?
