According to the rankings...
Section VI has three teams better than Section V in NYS Class AA. Health Sciences has crept all the way up to #17 in NYS Class AA and gave Aquinas (the most heralded of the Section V Class AA teams) directions to the magic show.
Jamestown inched up one more spot in NYS Class AA to #15, now just one spot behind Niagara Falls who held steady at #14 despite losing to Canisius, who entered that game ranked #27 in NYS Class A. It will be very interesting to see if the panel grants Jamestown that same level of forgiveness -- the Red Raiders lost to NYS Class A #20 Canisius last night, the same Canisius team that beat Falls one day after last week's rankings came out, just a much higher ranked version of Canisius.
Amherst has a new opponent in the NYS Class A Far West Regional at Gates Chili on Saturday, March 11th. East High of Rochester is now sitting at #17 in NYS Class A and projected to face the Tigers.
Wins over St. Mary's & Park were not enough to keep Nichols from sliding back two spots to #9 in NYS Class B after losing to Taylor Allderdice last Monday.
Lew-Port is looking into places to stay in Glens Falls. The Lancers are the highest ranked NYS Class B team (#12) from the Far West Region, one spot ahead of its projected opponent from Batavia.
Salamanca is the new Class B2 champ, moving up to #17 in NYS Class B after wins in 8 of its last 9 games that included victories against three of the best from that classification locally: Fredonia, Allegany-Limestone, & Southwestern.
The panel reviewed Holland's 27-point loss to Allegany-Limestone on Sunday at JCC and were impressed enough by the close margin to boost the Dutchmen up one spot in NYS Class C to #16. They now sit just two spots behind #14 Randolph, who lost at Allegany-Limestone by 9.
Westfield flipped the script on Panama and added some scenes in the rematch with the Panthers last week, knocking them off by 22 points after losing at the buzzer in Panama earlier in the month. The win allowed the Wolverines to shoot up the NYS Class D rankings to #12, three spots behind their opponent on JCC Friday from Clymer, ranked #9 in the state.
