According to the rankings...
- Niagara Falls and Cicero-North Syracuse both climbed two spots this week in the NYS Class AAA state rankings, setting the stage for a battle between #15 and #16 in the state on Friday night.
- Lancaster’s bounce back win over North on Saturday wasn’t enough to sway the panel into keeping them in the NYS Class AAA rankings after its first loss earlier on the week to Jamestown.
- Timon remains locked in as the top ranked team in NYS Class AA, despite not being a unanimous #1 in the News large school poll.
- Speaking of Class AA, everyone in WNY is moving on up like the Jefferson’s in that classification. Canisius, Frontier, and Health Sciences are all on the rise this week, while Jamestown makes its debut at #27. Frontier took the biggest climb, moving up five spots from last week to #13.
- Grand Island's undefeated record is being noticed, as the Vikings are up two spots this week to #16 in NYS Class A. This Friday evening I will have the play-by-play with Ryan Mountain providing color commentary through WNY Athletics for Grand Island's game at Niagara Wheatfield.
- Salamanca's win over Allegany-Limestone by 20 compared to Fredonia's win over the same team by 5, inspired a game of leapfrog from the fine folks at the NYSSWA. Last week, the Warriors slipped one spot behind Fredonia. This week, while both teams shot up, it was the Warriors that climbed four spots compared to Fredonia’s two. The two teams still have a pair of league games to play against each other this season.
- Middle College finally makes its debut in the state rankings, starting out at #23. Long overdue for a team that is 7–3 with a win over Williamsville East this season and an 18-point win over MST Seneca.
- Another team with 7 wins from the City of Buffalo that beat MST Seneca by 18 is Burgard. The Bulldogs have yet to lose a game. There are six teams left in the NYSPHAA's Class B that are undefeated. Burgard is the only one not ranked by the NYSSWA panel.
- However, the most alarming thing to me in NYS Class B was the decision to completely drop Eden from the rankings for one loss. How someone could be so fast to drop Eden from rankings over one loss is downright unfathomable!
- In NYS Class C, 9 of the 20 teams ranked are from the Far West Region. Three from Section VI and six from Section V. That doesn’t even include Wheatfield-Chili, who defeated #6 York earlier this season. Randolph, currently holding down the top top spot in NYS Class C, travels to York on Saturday afternoon.

Am I just being presumptuous in believing that the Niagara Gazette writer vote is stagnating the waters in the BN polls?
I mean, C’MON…
Timon clearly CRUSHED an inferior Falls squad, but somehow Falls still takes a vote from them?!?
AND
Randolph is the UNDEFEATED (so far) defending STATE CHAMPS and Newfane happens to get the only other small schools #1 vote?!?
If it wasn’t him, I will gladly eat my words.
