******** According to the rankings above........
- The Far West Region of New York State has fallen completely off the Class AA map. There is not one team ranked in the top 25 from Section VI or Section V. Honestly, I can't say I disagree. I did push hard for Niagara Falls, especially when I saw Fairport ranked as high as #13!?!? But now the Red Raiders have come back to earth and after Falls lost to unranked Rome Free Academy at the I-90 Showcase in Buffalo over break, they have zero argument for not cracking the top 25.
- Section V had Rush-Henrietta sitting at #22 in NYS Class AA last week, until Timon went out to Rochester and knocked them off, along with UPrep. The Tigers big reward...an appearance in the Class A rankings at #19. The head-scratching part of this is Irondequoit is ranked ahead of Timon at #12, despite finishing third in the same tournament Timon just won. So I thought to myself, this must be about records, because I know the panel loves a good record with no regard to context. But no, that's not it either. Timon has already played nine games and is 8-1. Irondequoit is just six games into its season and now sits at 4-2. Hamsters?
- Park sits at #10 in NYS Class A after a one-point loss to Iona Prep, ranked #8 in NYS Class AA, in overtime.
- Despite losing its first game of the season in an out of state tournament, Canisius remains the #1 ranked team in NYS Class A. Nazareth, who Canisius defeated already in the Tom Keenan Tournament, is ranked #3.
- St. Mary's is up to #12 in NYS Class B, after debuting at #17 two weeks ago. They have jumped ahead of Niagara Catholic, who opened at #19 in the initial state rankings and currently sit at #20. St. Mary's visits the Patriots on Wednesday night.
- Congratulations to Middle College on being ranked #18 in NYS Class B, after being completely disregarded two weeks ago. Even though they won't take you higher that #18, they really do think you're very good, because Northstar Christian only fell two spots from #1 to #3 in NYS Class C after you beat them.
- There are three teams from Section V ranked ahead of Tapestry, who is #8 in NYS Class C, just in case anyone was having a tough day getting back on schedule and needed a good laugh.
- Section VI has three teams ranked in the top seven of Class D, but not the highest team ranked in the Far West Region. That distinction goes to Prattsburgh of Section V. So according to the rankings, we go 1-4 in regionals this year. Section V wins Class D, C, A, and of course Class AA, with all the talent back at Fairport.
