The Buffalo eXtreme are enjoying a fantastic inaugural season, jumping out to a record of 11-2 and are now ranked #11 in the country!
The best part about this squad is their connection to high school hoops in WNY. For starters, the team is coached by 2018 Centercourt Coach of the Year, Rich Jacob, and his assistant, Bob Bateson, who led The Park School to back-to-back CHSAA Class A State Championships in 2018 & 2019 and winning the NYS Federation Tournament of Champions as well in 2018.
In addition, the team is comprised of standout names I've personally had the pleasure to watch and cover over the years. Those players include the following:
Javon McCrea - Newark 2010
Howard Washington - Canisius 2014 * sophomore season, then transferred to Montverde Academy
Lovell Smith - McKinley 2013
Alex Golda - Park 2015
Marcellus Cooper - Amherst 2017
Jamaal Carter - City Honors 2012
Quran DuBois - Niagara Falls 2018
And now the Buffalo eXtreme is proud to announce the signing of Dom Welch, the 2017 CC MVP and WNY’s all-time leading scorer with 2,376 career points. Following his historic career at Cheektowaga, Welch committed to St. Bonaventure in April 2018. In his senior season, he was awarded 2022 NIT All-Tournament honors after leading the Bonnies to the semifinals. Upon entering the transfer portal, he was picked up by Alabama and former UB coach, Nate Oats.
“Dom brings a level of talent and professionalism to our team that we are always looking for,” said Coach Rich Jacob. “He is a wonderful talent and human being and all of Buffalo should celebrate his coming home and wearing a Buffalo eXtreme jersey.”
The eXtreme are looking to make a strong push in the second half of the season as they head to the playoffs in March. The American Basketball Association’s newest franchise has its next home games on Saturday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 10th at 7 pm. This Saturday night's home game is against the Rochester Kingz.
